Design created pre-1918. Princess Kaiulani was a beautiful Ali'i who was to be the next reigning queen after Queen Liliuokelani, who was the last Hawaiian monarch. Shortly after the overthrow of the monarchy, Kaiulani tragically died of pneumonia at the age of 23. This quilt design incorporates the royal kahili (standards) as well as the crowns associated with the Ali'i.
