Quilt, Sandalwood
Hawaii's first trade with the outside world centered around the fragrant Sandalwood. After American traders had negotiated with the village chiefs, peasants cut and carried the Sandalwood down from the abundant forest on their backs between 1790 and 1840. Sadly, Sandalwood was almost depleted to extinction. However, this beautifully scented wood is making a comeback in the more inaccessible areas of Oahu's forest reserves. Available in: |
