Design originally created and made by Mama Loke. Hawaiian women used wild ginger flowers as a shampoo and perfume when bathing in mountain waterfalls. The wild ginger was sliced open, dried and pounded into a scented powder before being added to a large calabash (wooden bowl) containing folds of tapa (bark cloth).
